Warren Haynes opened his Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration tour at Pittsburgh, PA’s Heinz Hall last night. As previously reported, Haynes performed on Garcia’s classic guitar Wolf and collaborated with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra throughout the night. Aquarium Rescue Unit drummer Jeff Sipe, bassist Lincoln Schleifer, Warren Haynes Band singer Alecia Chakour and Pittsburgh Opera vocalist Jasmine Muhammad also augmented Haynes during his performance.

The performance opened with the introduction to “Dark Star” and remained sharply focused on the Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia songbook throughout the night. Haynes spiced his setlist with some less obvious choices, including the Workingman’s Dead tune “High Time” and a unique version of “Slipknot!” sandwiched between the end portion of “Terrapin Station.” The guitarist also offered an original song, his Jerry Garcia tribute “Patchwork Quilt,” during his encore. According to a note on a stage setlist posted on Haynes’ Facebook page, the program may change during the tour.

Haynes’ tour continues at Raleigh, NC’s Red Hat Amphitheatre on Thursday.
