Brendan Canning, the co-founder and bassist of Broken Social Scene, has announced the October 1 release of his second solo album, You Gots 2 Chill. Released independently on Canning’s own Draper Street Records, You Gots 2 Chill follows Canning’s critically acclaimed 2008 solo debut, Something for All of Us.

Since Broken Social Scene announced its indefinite hiatus in 2011, Canning has revived his old pre-BSS pop project, Cookie Duster (their debut album, When Flying Was Easy, was released in June 2012), scored the soundtrack to Paul Schrader’s The Canyons, and he is currently at work on an interactive video-game/film project with the director David Cronenberg.

Without guest appearances from his longtime collaborators from BSS or the Arts & Crafts collective, Canning recorded the album in his Toronto home (several tracks were reportedly recorded onto Canning’s voicemail) and even drew the album’s cover art himself.

You Gots 2 Chill ’s lead track, “Plugged In,” is now streaming at Canning’s official website.
