Of Montreal will release their new album Lousy with Sylvianbriar on October 8. Unlike their last album Daughter of Cloud, Kevin Barnes, founder of the Georgia-based rock group, boasts of not only taking new approaches to songwriting on Lousy with Sylvianbriar, but also innovative recording methods and a fresh group of musicians. Recorded in his home studio on a 24-track tape machine, most of the tracking is recorded live with the band in the same room together.

“I knew I wanted the process to be more in line with the way people used to make albums in the late ’60s and early ’70s,” Barnes explains of his thinking behind this evocative recording style. “I wanted to work fast and to maintain a high level of spontaneity and immediacy. I wanted the songs to be more lyric driven, and for the instrumental arrangements to be understated and uncluttered.”
