Richard Thompson and Low Join Wilco During AmericanaramA

The traveling AmericanaramA tour rolled into Duluth, MN’s Bayfront Festival Park last night. In addition to tour staples Bob Dylan, Wilco and My Morning Jacket, last night’s performance featured opening act Richard Thompson Trio. My Morning Jacket played second and opened their set with the mellow staple “Golden.” They also dusted off a few songs they haven’t played this year, including the At Down number “Honest Man” and the It Still Moves tune “I Will Sing You Songs.”

As has been the case all tour, Wilco offered the night’s most unique setlist. They opened with a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Who Loves the Sun,” a number they debuted during their all-request set at Solid Sound last month, and brought Thompson back for his Fairport Convention classic “Sloth” (Thompson joined Wilco for the song this past weekend, too.) Then, surprise guest Low joined Wilco and Thompson for a take on Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” The members of Low hail from Duluth and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy produced Low’s latest studio album.

Dylan, who is also from Minnesota, closed the night with his standard set. However, he encored with “Blowin’ In The Wind” instead of “Ballad of a Thin Man” for only the second time this summer.

I’m going to this show in a week or so and pretty excited about it. Am I the only one? It doesn’t seem to be getting much attention…I wonder if any special guests will join them for the Boston show…
