Trampled By Turtles Make Surprise Appearance During MMJ’s AmericanaramA Set

My Morning Jacket were joined by Trampled By Turtles for a few songs during last night’s AmericanaramA show in St. Paul, MN. The bluegrass outfit—who hail from nearby Duluth, MN—made their surprise appearance during the middle of MMJ’s set for “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” “There’s A Higher Power” and “Alone.” The rest of their set featured plenty of standards like “Off The Record,” “Victory Dance,” “Worldess Chorus” and “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt. 2.”

My Morning Jacket also sat in with Wilco toward the end of their set for a cover of Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” Wilco debuted their cover during their stellar all-requests set Solid Sound, and they’ve now played it twice with MMJ during the AmericanaramA Tour. Last night’s Wilco set also featured renditions of “New Madrid,” a tune from Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirrat’s old alt-country outfit Uncle Tupelo, and “Laminated Cat,” a track from Tweedy and drummer Glenn Kotche’s “Loose Fur” project.

Bob Dylan debuted a cover of early ’60s pop singer Bobby Vee’s “Suzie Baby” toward the end of his set. Dylan close the over as a nod to his early days in Minnesota when Vee gave him a break as a piano player in 1959. With the exception of that notable tune, Dylan played a fairly standard set that included classics like “Tangled Up in Blue,” “Simple Twist of Fate,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Blowin’ in the Wind.”

The AmericanaramA Tour will stop at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL tonight.

Hail from Duluth my ass. they barely even play there anymore and I’m pretty sure only one member actually lives there. Almost offensice for those of us that used to go see them regularly in duluth.
