String Cheese Incident’s Bill Nershi, Jason Hann and Michael Travis will perform together as Honkytonk Observatory next month. The group will anchor a mini-festival on the Colorado River at Rancho Del Rio and State Bridge from August 23-24. YarmonyGrass will present the event.

Honkytonk Observatory is a meeting of two extreme sides of String Cheese’s sonic palette. For many, Nershi represents the band’s bluegrass and country roots, while the SCI drummers, who also tour as EOTO, have embraced and developed the band’s latter period EDM experiments. In addition, the upcoming event will feature performances by Drew Emmitt’s Joint Set featuring Scott Law and Andy Thorn. The Drunken Hearts, Oakhurst, Chris Thompson & Coral Creek and several other acts. The mini-fest describes the jam sessions as “once in a lifetime configurations.”
