A Taste of the New Mickey Hart Band

Mickey Hart Band’s sophmore album is set for release on August 13. Superorganism presents ten original compositions and features lyrics by longtime Grateful Dead collaborator Robert Hunter. The album also features guest appearances by Giovanni Hidalgo and Zakir Hussain. Hart explains of the album title and concept, “A superorganism is a complex organism composed of many smaller organisms. A band is a superorganism, so is the universe. For the last few years I have been creating music from the source sounds of the cosmos and now the body. These sounds are noise—harsh, strange—and it is only after dancing with their essence face to face that music can be created.” We have just posted a “Superorganism Mash” featuring a taste of all the songs on the album.

Superorganism is available for pre-order at Hart’s website, and those who purchase the recording can download the first two tracks immediately.

I wish someone would tell Mickey you don’t have to clinicly masturbate cosmic reality to come up with a good backbeat…

Hey man props to Mickey for starting a REAL band that looks for more meaning in its music than some played out nostalgia trip. Its really not so hard to find new ideas to work with is it? Wasn’t this what Garcia was all about in his better years? If you liked Mickeys last album and all the talk about the music being the sound of the big bang and universe expanding check out some Sun Ra you might like him. Schools kicks ass!!!
