Bob Weir made a surprise appearance with Warren Haynes and The San Francisco Orchestra last night. On Jerry Garcia’s birthday, Weir made his way over to San Francisco, CA’s Davies Symphony Hall to sit in with Haynes the orchestra for “Shakedown Street, “china Cat Sunflower” and “Morning Dew. The performance was part of Haynes’ current Symphonic Celebration of the Music of Jerry Garcia tour. Longtime RatDog/The Dead/Furthur keyboardist Jeff Chimenti also joined Weir during the guest appearance. A few other familiar faces are currently backing Haynes and the symphonies on their current run, including drummer Jeff Sipe, bassist Lincoln Schleifer and singers Alecia Chakour and Jasmine Muhammad.

Though the symphony left, the venue let Haynes come back for a surprise encore for Garcia’s birthday. Both Weir and Chimenti returned for “Sugaree,” “I Know You Rider” and “Stella Blue.”

Weir performed with the Marin Symphony in 2011 and jammed with Haynes at TRI Studios on Wednesday night (highlights from the TRI Studios performance were also broadcast on CNBC yesterday morning).

Haynes and The San Francisco Orchestra will return to Davies Symphony Hall this evening. Phil Lesh is expected to join the symphony. Additional videos from yesterday’s show are available over on Relix.com.
