Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros have confirmed their own music and performing arts festival, Big Top. The four-day event will be held at Los Angeles’ Historic State Park on October 17-20.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros created Big Top to be a festival with a distinctive circus experience. Big Top will take place under a traditional Big Top circus tent in Los Angeles’ Historic State Park and the outdoor space will feature a farmers market, beer gardens, games and local vendors and artisans.

The event founders will headline the festival and there will also be performances by various musicians, vaudeville comedy, contortionists, acrobats and puppetry throughout the weekend. The Big Top circus tent will host a 360 degree tiered seating area to create an intimate live performance experience.

“These days a band is a fast machine, cramming in dates, cutting fat, making the most money it can. Far gone are the ancient days of the traveling troubadours, lingering in towns, meeting the people, entertaining for days,” said the band’s Alex Ebert. “If you tour, or you have been to a ‘professional’ show, you may have had the sense that something is missing from the experience…And so, here comes the idea of Big Top – a one-off experiment in reaching for a more colorful, soulful, way to tour.”

Tickets for Big Top go on-sale Friday, August 9 at 10 AM PST.
