Last night, Trey Anastasio joined Furthur for the second half of their Saturday night performance at the inaugural Lockn’ Festival at Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, VA. The Phish guitarist sat in with the band at the end of their highly anticipated Workingman’s Dead show. Anastasio came out for “Casey Jones” and then stuck around for almost an hour as the band jammed into “Bertha,” “Truckin’,” “The Other One,” “Viola Lee Blues” and finally, a “Scarlet Begonias” that played into “Fire On The Mountain.” Though Anastasio has performed with both Phil Lesh and Bob Weir on multiple occasions, his sit in marks the first time he’s performed with the Grateful Dead co-founders at the same time.

Anastasio’s surprise appearance closed out a day that already saw John Fogerty join Widespread Panic for the second half of their set. The guitarist was at the festival with his Trey Anastasio Band, who played a set earlier in the evening. The Lockn’ Festival will continue tomorrow with performances by Furthur, Widespread Panic, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Black Crowes, Col. Bruce Hampton & Friends with Oteil Burbridge and more.
