Neil Young debuted a new song with his wife’s band, Pegi Young & The Survivors, last night at Johnny D’s in Somerville, MA. Rolling Stone reports that the legendary singer-songwriter shocked fans at the 300-capacity venue when he joined the band for a tune called “Drive My Car.”

Pegi Young & The Survivors are currently on tour in support of their 2011 album, Bracing for Impact, and the band played two sets at the inaugural Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, VA this past weekend. Neil Young & Crazy Horse were scheduled to headline the event, but they cancelled their appearance—along with the rest of their tour— after guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro injured his hand. Many hoped that Young would join his wife on stage at the festival, but that never materialized. Last night’s show marked the first time this year that the couple played together in public.
