Carlos Santana and The Friends of the Coltrane House will host their first annual fundraiser on October 6 at En Japanese Brasserie in New York City. The group will be raising money for the restoration needs of Coltrane’s historic longtime home in Long Island’s Dix Hills. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has identified the house as one of the most endangered historic places in the country.

Coltrane composed his masterpiece A Love Supreme in the home, where he also raised his family. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the classic album, and the The Friends of the Coltrane House hope to to open the home to the public for a limited time next year.

The fundraiser will features speeches by acclaimed professor and jazz fan Dr. Cornel West, as well as A Love Supreme biographer Ashley Kahn. Coltrane’s son Ravi and his quartet will also be performing and the event will include special guest appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Heath, Marcus Miller, Wynton Marsalis, Sonia Sanchez and more.

The event will kick off a season of fundraising efforts by The Friends of the Coltrane House. An initial goal of $350,000 has been set, and an IndieGoGo campaign will be running through October 25. Tickets to the fundraiser are available for $200 and will be tax-deductible.
