Halfway into his free, four song set in Times Square, Paul McCartney announced, “I should put a tip jar in front of me, because we are pretty much busking out here.” After playing Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and performing at a Queen’s high school, McCartney shifted his “Paul McCartney NYC Week” into another gear when he played for tourists and savvy NYC social media users this afternoon.

The former Beatle announced his show with a brief tweet around noon that read, “Wow! Really excited to be playing New York Times Square at 1 pm.” McCartney took the stage at about 1:15 pm and played four songs off his new album NEW before wrapping up 1:37 pm. McCartney paraphrased Andy Warhol in explaining his abbreviated set, noting that “Andy Warhol said we all get our fifteen minutes of fame and I guess this is mine”

NEW is set for release on October 15 via Hear Music. You can pre-order the album here.
