Pearl Jam kicked off their Lightning Bolt Tour last night at Pittsburgh, PA’s Consol Energy Center. The band rolled through their typical 31-song marathon setlist that included five debuts from the upcoming Lightning Bolt. “Pendulum” (which opened the show) saw its live debut along with the second single, “Sirens,” “Infallible,” “Let the Records Play” and the quiet, acoustic number “Yellow Moon.” Also included in the show from the tenth studio album due out October 15 was “Lightning Bolt” and the lead single, “Mind Your Manners.”

The band also mixed new with old, throwing in rarities like “Footsteps” from 2003’s Lost Dogs compilation (and original “Jeremy” single), “Unemployable” and “Of the Girl.” The night closed with a string of hits, including “Black,” “Yellow Ledbetter” and a staple cover in PJ’s catalog, Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

Before “Whipping,” Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jason Grilli joined the band on stage. Grilli, the Pirates’ closer, fired up the crowd with a speech promising big things next year and then ordered the band to play “Whipping.” The Pirates were recently eliminated from the MLB playoffs. Pearl Jam’s tour continues tonight in Buffalo, NY.
