American Babies were joined by Joe Russo and Leroy Justice’s Justin Mazer for much of their set at the Brookyln Bowl last night. The show kicked off with a take on Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come” before the band went into a number of originals, as well as a rendition of Brothers Past’s “Boy.”

Mazer—who opened the show with Leroy Justice—sat in toward the end of the first portion of the night, taking the stage for “Weight of the World” and “I Want a Girl.” Later, he returned with Russo for a cover of The Band’s “Lookout Cleveland.” Russo then stuck around for American Babies first ever version of Radiohead’s “The Bends,” which played into “Joeline” (Russo and Hamilton regularly played “The Bends” with Electron and released a version of the song on the band’s lone live album.) The song was followed by the band’s debut cover of Younger Brother’s “Ribbon on a Branch.” The show then wrapped up with a take on The Grateful Dead’s “Eyes of the World,” which was sandwiched between “Winter War Games.” It was also the first time that the American Babies had played the Dead tune.

American Babies will continue their residency at the Brooklyn Bowl on October 21. As previously reported, the band was joined by Jon Gutwillig of the Disco Biscuits during last week’s residency show.
