The Meters, Yes, Nirvana, Peter Gabriel and Hall and Oates Highlight 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for the 2014 class last night. Among the sixteen nominees are Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, The Meters, Yes, Deep Purple, KISS and Chic.

Fans will once again have the opportunity to vote in the induction selection process. Voting begins today and continues through December 10. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will constitute a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2014 inductees. Fans should head over to The R&R HOF website to cast their ballots.

Additional nominees include LL Cool J, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, The Zombies, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt and Link Wray. The Meters, Chic, Deep Purple, N.W.A. and The Paul Butterfield Band were all nominated in 2013.

The 2013 Rock Hall class included Quincy Jones, Rush, Public Enemy, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, Heart, Albert King and Lou Adler.

Yes is one of the most important band of all time to prog fans – a basic building block for any serious music fans base knowledge. Their albums from the late ’60’s and ’70’s are all essential. They will likely get past over, which is fine. They can join the dozens of other more cerebral bands that HOF voters do not comprehend. “The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes”

Yep, 100% Yes is easily one of the most important bands from the last century and it’s easy to see the influence they’ve had on the jamband genre. I’ve been lucky enough to see them live twice in recent years and they are absolutely astonishing! The Yes Album or Fragile are my pics for the Phish Halloween cover…

The Meters truly deserve to be in the HOF. Between their own records, backing other bands and being sampled by hip-hop/rap artists, they have been a HUGE influence for a wide variety of genres and years.

It would be very cool to see The Meters in the HOF. I hope Courtney Love isn’t allowed to speak.

Its ridiculous the Meters were passed up last year even though they were nominated. Hopefully Yes fans vote like Rush fans do and get them in

how bout cat Stevens?.... listen to that 17 minute foreigner suite on the box set if you got doubts…. or watch the magikat dvd…. the guy didn’t write one bad song either….. when I think of yes and fragile, I’m a sucker for the one sell-out song “roundabout”........ super psychy-d… Meters are a no brainer and can’t believe they aren’t already in there…...

The fact that Randy Newman is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a complete joke… The fact that rappers and R&B artists are in the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame ( while they may be incredibly talented) is also a complete joke… While it’s certainly an honor for individuals, groups, and bands to be inducted into the R&R HOF i think we as fans need to examine what this organization is actually about, and to act along with the R&RHOF organization to actually make the awards meaningful and appropriately allocated… Also The Meters!

I know I’ll probably get killed for this but if KISS isn’t in the RRHoF, then there should be one… I think Simmons and Stanley are douchebags, but you can’t deny they are the epitome of what R&R is… definitely better musicians (as named in other posts) but R&R HoF isn’t about ability, it’s about R&R… you tube a few of KISS’ 70s shows… it may be cheezy but it’s damn good R&R… now go ahead… Come on and Shock Me… make feel better… put on your black leather %^)

*** ...then there should NOT be one….

Yes and the Replacements on the same ticket is funny. Kiss might be deserving but they still suck.

Mr Random October 17, 2013, 11:31:21

Peach is right, I mean NWA’s music is the antithesis of R n R. Change the name to include all genres of music if you want induct the likes of Randy Newman and Linda Ronstadt. KISS deserves to be in there because of their contributions to R n R but, I’m sorry Me, they do suck ass.

Wtf? Anyone else realize that Phish became eligible and are NOT nominated? Could be debatable on induction but not even a nomination? Just proves once again the Rock Hall is full of shit.
