Phish rolled into Rochester’s BlueCross Arena last night on the road to Atlantic City. Coming off a three night run at Hampton Coliseum, the band picked up where they left off with an energetic start that included “AC/DC Bag,” “The Moma Dance” and “Axilla.” The fireworks to start gave way to more lighthearted moments, as “Meatstick” and “Scent of a Mule” allowed the band to show off their goofy side. The first set quickly transformed back into a serious rocker as “Maze” and “Character Zero” brought the first frame to a close.

The Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed and Painless” included the first extended improv of the evening, staying true to form for 2013 and topping out at over 15 minutes. The foray into “Light” also included bits of TV On the Radio’s “Golden Age,” causing most to wonder if it was a planned mashup. Phish moved through all of “Golden Age” in a different time signature before transitioning into “Birds of a Feather.” The end of the second set contained some of 2013’s most played songs, including the ever present “Possum.”

“Joy” and “First Tube” covered the encore and Phish exited the stage to a satisfied Rochester crowd. The tour continues tonight in Glens Falls, NY as Phish returns to the place where they performed The Beatles’ White Album during their 1994 Halloween run. Tonight’s show will also be available via webcast on LivePhish.
