Phil Lesh and Friends, American Jubilee Cover Let It Bleed Over Three Nights

Last month we reported that Phil Lesh and Friends would be making things interesting with themed shows during their current run, which has already included four nights at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY and two shows at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. It looks like another one of those themes has now played out, as the band—which features Lesh, his son Grahame, Anders Osborne, Luther Dickinson, Jason Crosby, Tony Leone—performed most of the songs from The Rolling Stones’ 1969 album Let It Bleed over the course of Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. The few tracks that the group skipped over were played by Phil’s son Brian Lesh’s band American Jubilee, who have been opening for them during the current run.

On Sunday, November 3, Phil and Friends put their spin on Let It Bleed’s opener “Gimme Shelter” during their encore at The Capitol Theatre. Then on Tuesday night, American Jubilee played the album’s next two tracks, a take on Robert Johnson’s “Love In Vain” and the Stones original “Country Honk,” during their opening set at the Best Buy Theater. Phil and the gang then worked “Live With Me,” “Let It Bleed” and “Midnight Rambler” into their performance.

The two bands finally wrapped up Let It Bleed last night, with American Jubilee knocking out “You Got the Silver” and “Monkey Man” during their set, and Phil and Friends performing the album’s final track, “You Can’t Always Get You Want,” during their show. The band also treated fans to an extra Stones tune during the second set when they went into “Brown Sugar.”

Interestingly, last night’s show was preceded by a warning from Phil Lesh, who posted about the heavy police presence around the venue on his Facebook page. The bassist posted a statement that read:

The heat is out in force trying to bust people, regardless of whether you’re smiling on a cloudy day or not. Be cautious at the Best Buy Phil Lesh and Friends shows this week. We’ve heard of some aggressive, over-the-top police tactics going down in NYC. Use common sense, and know that you’re a target. We want everyone to have a great time.

Phil Lesh and Friends and American Jubilee will return to the Best Buy Theater tonight for the third show of their five night run at the venue.

Seem to recall ventilation problems during Furthur’s 2011 run at TS where smoke goes right up into the family restaurant or whatever is directly above/next to the theater. The problem with most deadheads is that they can’t take a toke or two of the good stuff but then have to chain smoke cigarettes non-stop in tight, non ventilated quarters. It then mixes with the petrulli oil & BO for one disgusting mixture. I’ve come out of many a Furthur show and puked shortly afterwards…

The themes at the Capitol were Music from Big Pink by The Band, Everybody Knows this is Nowhere by Neil Young and Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-erd by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Is there no shame?

Graham and american jubilee are not very good. He is the weakest member of this lineup of heavy hitters. You can skip the opening act and get a better show by naked cowboy in times square.

NYPD Presents: “Stop and Frisk – Hippie Edition”. LMAO @ naked cowboy.

Been listening to the shows on ustream jubilee sounds good to me and Phil’s sets sound fantastic! Great song selection so far! Too bad about the Gestapo police presence but it is Times square! Maybe they are still pissed about the Trey show debacle on Broadway and taking it out on Phil fans?

BTW – that is not Phil Lesh’s real facebook page.
It was a page started and run by a fan.
I would seriously hope if Phil and Jill were aware of the “tactics” going on by the Best Buy and NYPD they would say something? But no – they are getting paid!

....I lived in New York for forty years and fondly remember it as being one location where there were no hassles. I guess since Guiliani and Bloomberg it has fallen into the control of the lock step goons. As America circles the drain….......

where can I see the poster?
with the album info

Phil got our back November 7, 2013, 20:19:08

Thankfully Phil has our backs and the Phish wookies who spread hate about our band can suck it. Trey invites the DEA into the lot to round you up so his precious drug court can make more money while Phil warns his Phan-base of a heavy presence. Thanks Phil and sorry wookie.

Hater November 7, 2013, 21:23:24

Sorry to agree with the haters but the Lesh kids really are sub-par, which is being nice. Thankfully the real talent can carry the shows with the Lesh Kids handicap. P.s. how long before the Shapiro goonies take down this comment. Since almost all criticism of the Leah kids disappears from the comments usually within a day.

Lesh’s child performers are weak sauce…. All of us out here by the crossroads can def tell you that…. To “Phil got our back” above; you are simply a fucking moron and for a GD family kid to call phish kids “wookies” is so ass backwards. Trey inviting DEA?!! You are retarded.. Ever been to either shows or haight street? Keep raging your nostalgic act, growing whiteboy locks, spreading head lice, asking me for spare change, and rocking patchworks bub…... I go see Phil and enjoy the fuck out of it when the lineup is worth a damn, but the fact of the matter is;, it’s not most of the time, so I hold out for the scofield warren molo medeski herring type lineups…. Glad there’s enough idiots like you to keep putting food on American jubilees table though….
