Pearl Jam made their return to Phoenix, AZ count, as the band’s first performance in the Valley of the Sun in 10 years featured some of their rarest tunes as well as a special guest spot. Opening with the somber “Long Road” and ultra emotional “Release,” the band plowed through a 35-song set (one of their longest of the tour) that mixed new cuts from their latest release Lightning Bolt with older fan favorites.

Among those fan favorites were a few that haven’t received much play this tour, such as “Down,” “Wishlist” and, surprisingly, “Jeremy.” Pearl Jam also managed to include a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Interstellar Overdrive” early on in the set. The first encore, which features the group taking a seat and playing some acoustic tunes, included the second “Bee Girl” of the tour. The Lost Dogs rarity was played for just the 15th time ever. Even more rare than that, “Around the Bend” came next, its first performance since 2006 and just the tenth play ever. “Footsteps,” “Alone” and “Down” also made rare appearances in the first encore.

The final surprise of the show came in the second encore when E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren joined Pearl Jam for a performance of “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Recently, actress/musician Carrie Brownstein and St. Vincent joined PJ for a performance of the very same song. After a rocking second encore that included “Spin the Black Circle” and “Alive,” the show closed with the powerfully mellow “Indifference.”
