Robert Randolph will return to the studio with The Word. The pedal steel virtuoso told Jambands.com that the supergroup—which features John Medeski and the members of the North Mississippi Allstars—would be reconvening this January following Jam Cruise. Randolph also hinted at a tour with the band, saying:

I’ll be the studio with The Word again in January. Right after we come from Jam Cruise. We have so much material where it will probably just be…I don’t know if it will be Robert Randolph and the Family Band or if we’ll do a big Robert Randolph and Friends tour with The Word, Krasno, Santana. Who knows? I just know we’ll be putting something out in another six months. It’s about 60% completed already. Everybody wants to record another Word deal. We already compiled a bunch of materials through MP3 and ideas. We’ll go into the studio a couple of weeks after Jam Cruise in Nashville.

The Word released their first and only (self-titled) album back in 2001. The group has since gotten back together for a number of gigs, including performances at Bonnaroo and Jam Cruise.
