Photojournalist Andrew Youssef lost his fight with colon cancer, OC Weekly is reporting. He was 38 years old.

The Los Angeles native’s story reached far and wide, including Nine Inch Nails’ frontman Trent Reznor, who befriended Youssef following his diagnosis. The two would meet for lunch and spend time backstage at Nine Inch Nails shows and rehearsals. Recently, Reznor dedicated “In This Twilight” to Youssef at a show in Los Angeles. Reznor’s friend was scheduled to go to the show, but had to cancel due to his health. The frontman called Youssef from the stage and dedicated the show to him as well.

Youssef documented his battle with cancer through OC Weekly’s website, which also included a cover story for the magazine. Prior to his death, Youssef created a PayPal account, where all proceeds go to his family. For more information on how to donate, click here.
