Phil Lesh joined Al Schnier and The Terrapin Family Band during their brunch set at Terrapin Crossroads yesterday. The bassist was on stage during the entire set, which included takes on a number of Grateful Dead classics, as well as The Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” and Neil Young’s “Down By The River.”

Schnier then made an unexpected appearance of his own later in the day. The moe. guitarist—who had performed at San Francisco’s The Independent on Friday and Saturday night—sat in with Steve Kimock & Friends during the final show of their four-night Jerry Garcia & Merle Saunders tribute run at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA. The group—Kimock, Bobby Vega, Dan Lebowitz, Jeff Chimenti, Bill Vitt and Sunshine Becker—played a number of tunes from the Garcia/Saunders repertoire, including Steve Wonder, The Beatles, Albert King, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Dylan and more, with Schnier joining the band for “Frankln’s Tower” and “Born Under a Bad Sign.” Additionally, Kimock played Garcia’s famed guitar Wolf for the duration of the show.
