WFUV will broadcast their recent Holiday Cheer for FUV concert twice this week. The highly collaborative performance took place at New York’s Beacon Theatre on December 10, featuring Iron & Wine, Kathleen Edwards, Nick Lowe, Beth Orton, Amos Lee and Glen Hansard. Calexico served as the event’s house band and a horn section boasting Antibalas/Superhuman Happiness saxophonist Stuart Bogie—who recently spent time on the road as part of Iron & Wine’s backing band—sat in at various points throughout the night. The radio station will air the concert at noon today, as well as at 7:30pm on December 25.

The evening began with Sam Beam, Calexico and Edwards teaming up on Iron & Wine’s “Tree by the River.” Among the many highlights were Glen Hansard, bringing the house down with surprise guest vocalist Moji Abioli during the performance of his new song, “Her Mercy,” Nick Lowe performing his classic “Cruel to be Kind,” and a rousing rendition of the Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” by Beam, Edwards, Hansard and Calexico (later reprised on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon ). As a finale, the entire group returned to the stage for a moving cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” The Holiday Cheer for FUV concert will also be available to listen to on demand at wfuv.org after the radio broadcasts.
