Carlos Santana has reunited with original Santana Blues Band percussionist Marcus Malone, who was living homeless in Oakland. The guitarist now says that he wants to get his old friend a new place to live, as well as bring him back to the studio with the band’s original lineup.

The reunion was facilitated by KRON 4 news anchor Stanley Roberts, who unwittingly interviewed Malone for a segment on illegal dumping earlier this month. During the interview, Malone identified himself as an original member of the band, prompting Roberts to investigate the claim. A few days later, Santana—who had been searching for his friend for some time—enlisted the anchor to help him track down Malone. The two were finally reunited on December 20, their first encounter since losing touch after Malone was sent to prison in 1969.
