April 10 is Now Nirvana Day in Hoquiam, WA

The small city of Hoquiam in southeastern Washington has officially declared April 10 to be “Nirvana Day,” in homage to the seminal grunge band. While Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a short period, the city is just four miles away from the singer/guitarist’s hometown of Aberdeen.

“Nirvana Day” is set to coincide with the iconic band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The city’s mayor, Jack Durney, stated that the band brought “great honor…to the entire community.”

It would be great to know what the towns plans are for that day. Will there be any bands playing?7 some sort of ceremony? Or is it just to get their name in the press??? I know of a few people who want to travel to Hoquiam for that day, but if it’s just going to be any old day in Hoquiam, then what’s the point?
