The small city of Hoquiam in southeastern Washington has officially declared April 10 to be “Nirvana Day,” in homage to the seminal grunge band. While Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a short period, the city is just four miles away from the singer/guitarist’s hometown of Aberdeen.

“Nirvana Day” is set to coincide with the iconic band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The city’s mayor, Jack Durney, stated that the band brought “great honor…to the entire community.”
