Phish delivered a jam-heavy, six song second set during the second performance of their New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden last night. The show kicked off with a fun “Moma Dance” that moved into an energetic “Rift,” followed by an extended “Roggae.” For the second night in a row, the band offered two songs off their new Wingsuit album, “The Line” and “555.” Page McConnell’s keyboard work also highlighted the second half of the first set, especially on “It’s Ice,” Gumbo” and a set-closing “Walls of the Cave.”

While the first set ended on a high note, for many the highlight was the first part of Phish’s second set. The group came out the gate in top form with an over twenty minute, heavily improvised “Down With Disease” that got a little dark before moving seamlessly into an over fifteen minute “Carini.” The segment was followed by “Waves,”“Twist” and “Golgi Apparatus” before an equally well-jammed “David Bowie” closed out the set. The band then wrapped up their second consecutive cover-free show with the song they have played the most since reuniting in 2009, “Possum.”

Phish will return to Madison Square Garden tonight for the third performance of their New Year’s Eve run at the iconic New York City venue.
