William Hurt has been cast as the present-day version of Gregg Allman in the new biopic Midnight Rider, according to . As previously reported, All American Rejects’ Tyson Ritter will play a younger version of Allman in the film while Wyatt Russell will portray his brother Duane. Both Ritter and Russell have spent time shadowing Allman on the road with his solo band.

The film is based on Gregg Allman’s autobiography My Cross To Bear and production is set to start in February. Variety also revealed that the film will feature a mix of original Allman Brothers Band recordings and tracks re-recorded by the actors portraying the seminal Southern rock band.

Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers Band, Jackson Browne, John Hiatt, Sam Moore, Erich Church, Robert Randolph, Taj Mahal, Chuck Leavell and many others will celebrate Allman’s storied songbook and voice at Atlanta, GA’s Fox Theatre on January 10. Producer Don Was, who is expected to produce Allman’s next solo album, and Warren Haynes will serve as the evening’s musical directors.
