Winter Jazzfest 10 is currently taking place in New York. The multi-day celebration of modern jazz and improvisational music will touch down at clubs throughout the Greenwich Village and its surrounding areas, including Blue Note, Bowery Electric, Groove, Judson Church, Le Poisson Rouge, NYU Lounge, Subculture, The Bitter End and Zinc Bar. A special celebration of Blue Note Records’ 75th anniversary will also take place at Town Hall in Time Square this evening.

On Friday, a number of Winter Jazzfest performers will come together for an evening of improvised round-robin music. The all-star jam is slated to take place at Judson Church at 12:30am (technically Saturday morning). Confirmed guests include: Tyshawn Sorey (drums), Wilco’s Nels Cline (guitar), Ches Smith (drums), Vernon Reid (guitar), Nate Wooley (trumpet), Sylvie Courvoisier (piano), Matt Mitchell (piano), Dirty Projectors’ Nat Baldwin (bass), Shahzad Ismaily (bass), Mike Lewis (saxophone), Mat Maneri (violin), Curtis Fowlkes (trombone), Jacob Garchik (trombone) and Ingrid Laubrock (saxophone). Special guests are expected.
