Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has announced the formation of a new band—called Kimono Kult—with former At the Drive-In and Mars Volta guitarist and longtime collaborator Omar Rodríguez-López. The group also features Teri Gender Bender (vocals, guitar), Nicole Turley (bass, drum machine, trumpets, synths, backing vocals), Dante White-Aliano (guitar, synths) and Laena Geronimo (violin, bass, trumpets).

The band’s debut EP, Hiding in the Light, is set for digital release on March 4 through Neurotic Yell Records. According to the label, the EP is “four songs of electro/dub/afro-beat/avant-freak/jazz-like conversations of instrumental ecstasy.” The group have also released one track from the album—“Todo Menos El Dolor”—which you can hear below.

This is Frusciante’s first official band since his 2009 departure from the Chili Peppers. Until now, the iconic guitarist has only released solo material, including the 2012 full-length PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone and last year’s EP, Outsides.
