Wilco’s Nels Cline covered The Allman Brothers Band classic “Hot ‘Lanta” at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2. The guitarist performed as part of a band that included longtime collaborator Jim Campilongo, onetime ulu drummer Josh Dion and bassist Chris Morrissey. The performance was part of the Communion series, the monthly mini-festival organized and hosted by the label of the same name run by Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett. (The String Cheese Incident’s manager Mike Luba also oversees the Communion live events.) Other acts on last night’s bill included Zane Carney, Michael Daves, Brave Baby, JOHNNYSWIM, Jesse Woods and Danny Malone.

Campilongo said that Cline suggested last night’s Allman Brothers Band cover. Cline sat in with The Allman Brothers Band at New York’s Beacon Theatre in both 2012 and 2013. Warren Haynes also performed with Wilco in Hoboken, NJ last summer.
