The Bad Plus will release their ninth studio recording, a rendition of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, on March 25. The trio, consisting of bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King, took their arrangement of this orchestral work to the studio last June, 100 years after its premiere in Paris.

The Bad Plus have been together for the past decade and a half, performing original music as well as covers of Nirvana, Neil Young, Aphex Twin and others. The trio’s recording of The Rite of Spring marks their first release since 2012’s Made Possible. The group first performed the piece in 2011 at Duke University’s Reynolds Theater, and the previously recorded another Stravinsky score, “Variation d’Apollon,” for their 2009 album For All I Care.

The trio’s tour will last through May, and it will feature two March performances of the Stravinsky composition with the Mark Morris Dance Group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
