Chris Chew to Reunite with The Word for New York Shows

North Mississippi Allstars bassist Chris Chew will perform with The Word during their upcoming shows at the Brooklyn Bowl and Port Chester, NY’s The Capitol Theatre. Chew—who was The Word’s original bassist—was not scheduled to join the group for the two reunion shows, though it appears he has been confirmed at the last minute.

Chew has not been touring with the North Mississippi Allstars since he suffered a diabetic coma in the summer of 2012. However, the bassist does appear on the band’s new album, World Boogie Is Coming, and he has played a few shows with the group since taking his hiatus.

As previously reported, The Word—Robert Randolph, John Medeski and The North Mississippi Allstars—will take the stage at the Brooklyn Bowl tomorrow night before heading The Capitol Theatre on Wednesday. Eric Krasno will no longer be playing with the band at The Capitol Theatre.

Hopefully he’ll go back to the Allstars as well. I have been enjoying Lightin’ Malcolm, a lot, but Chew has a stage presence and this great energy that catches with the crowd.

Agree 100%. The Allstars need Chew back, not the same without him, no disrespect Lightening.

That’s great. I hadn’t heard much word about him since his illness and was afraid he had neurpathy or something and was unable to play anymore.
