Early Thursday morning two people were killed and 23 others injured when a car drove through a crowd of people in Austin, TX during SXSW. The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 AM near the intersection of Red River Street and East 10th Street in Austin just blocks away from the popular Mohawk music venue, according to Austin PD.

Police said the driver, in an attempt to dodge an officer that was attempting to pull him over, turned the wrong way on Red River, striking more than 20 people before turning off the street and crashing into a moped and a bicycle. The two people riding the moped and bicycle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect then jumped out of the car and fled on foot, before being detained by police. He is currently in custody and will be charged with two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault.
