Questlove, Eddie Roberts and Nigel Hall Join Soulive on Bowlive Opening Night
Soulive kicked off their first night of Bowlive with a variety of special guests including Questlove, DJ Logic, Eddie Roberts, Nigel Hall & Shmeeans and The Shady Horns. Another special aspect to opening night of the fifth Bowlive at Brooklyn Bowl was the first set, which would feature Soulive’s entire first album Get Down! in its entirety.
During the first set, the band was joined by Nigel Hall for “Cash’s Dream.” Hall would retreat backstage for the rest of the first set before rejoining Soulive for the entire second set and encore. The Shady Horns also made a late-first set appearance that featured “Brother Soul” and “Right On,” both of which also included DJ Logic. The New Mastersounds’ Eddie Roberts sat in for the set-closing “Right On.”
The five-song final set included Nigel Hall and The Shady Horns on all songs as well as a surprise sit-in from Questlove on “Layaway.” The Roots’ drummer was in the house to perform his usual DJ set on Thursday night. Guitarist Adam Smirnoff (Shmeeans) jumped on stage for the final tune of the set, “Leave Me Alone.” The band brought the show to a close with “Lickin’ Stick” and “There Was A Time” with Hall, DJ Logic and The Shady Horns.
Soulive, who also recently helped opened up Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, will return to the stage tonight with special guests George Porter Jr. (who also joined the band in Vegas), Nicki Bluhm, The Shady Horns, LeRoy Justice and DJ Greg Caz spinning between sets. Tickets are still available.
