Phil Lesh’s birthday run continued with another surprise guest as The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson stopped in on the unsuspecting Lesh to perform a few songs. Robinson, who surprised the birthday boy himself, also delivered a version of The Beatles’ “Birthday” at setbreak in honor of Lesh’s 74th birthday.

During the show, Robinson lent his voice and guitar to the second set-opening “Bertha,” “They Love Each Other” and “The Stranger (Two Souls in Communion).” The second set also featured a brief appearance by frequent collaborator Alex Koford on “Drums” before Robinson re-appeared for “Got My Mojo Working” and “Comes a Time.” The show closed with more Robinson as well as family friend Emily Sunderland, who both sat-in for “In the Midnight Hour” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” which brought the evening to a close.

The run has been highlighted by a variety of lineup changes, mostly due to musicians falling ill, as Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne had to sit out much of the run. Danny Click, Tom Hamilton and more have filled in. Osborne also missed the second set the previous night.
