GWAR frontman David Brockie (Oderus Urungus) was found dead in his Richmond, VA home on Sunday evening, Consequence of Sound has confirmed. The cause of death is not yet known, however there is no suspicion of foul play. Brockie was 50.

Known for their wild stage antics and bizarre music videos, GWAR became one of the most well-known metal acts since their formation in 1984. Brockie remained the group’s only consistent member. The group released thirteen studio albums, garnering several Grammy nominations as well.

GWAR’s manager Jack Flanagan, issued this statement about Brockie’s death:

It is with a saddened heart, that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 PM Eastern [on] Sunday, March 23, 2014. His body was found Sunday by his bandmate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified. A full autopsy will be performed. My main focus right now is to look after my bandmates and his family. More information regarding his death shall be released as the details are confirmed.
