Umphrey’s McGee announced this year’s quarter themes for the fifth installment of their annual UMBowl event scheduled for May 3 at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre. The band will roll out four “quarters” of music based around a central theme.

The first quarter has been dubbed “Raw Stewage” once again. Returning for the third time, and kicking off the event for the second year in a row, Raw Stewage is a fan-voted quarter in which the band will dig into past improv sections, reworking them into an hour’s worth of music.

Quarter Two contains the All Request portion of the evening. Also fan-voted from a batch of tunes compiled prior to the show, UM will play rare (or new) covers, old (or new) originals, or anything else they can think of at the time. According to the band’s Twitter, ballots will be sent to inboxes tomorrow.

The third quarter will see a return to the roots of the event with the Stew Art Event, the completely spur-the-moment set that is driven by fans texting in ideas or themes to the band to interpret as they wish. An UMBowl staple, the Stew Art remains one of the most musically creative quarters in the repertoire.

The Choose Your Own Adventure quarter will close out the show, as the crowd will construct the set on the fly, piecing together intros and endings to create a one of a kind Umphrey’s McGee set.
