The New Deal will return to the stage this summer. The jamtronica pioneers, who called it quits following a 2011 farewell tour and a final concert on Jam Cruise 10, made the announcement today via a redesigned website. No shows have been scheduled as of now, but summer and fall dates will be announced this week.

Original drummer Darren Shearer has decided not to join the band on the road. Toronto-based drummer Joel Stouffer, who filled in for Shearer when he broke his hand in 2011 and who has spent seven years performing with bassist Dan Kurtz’s electro-pop project Dragonette, will be playing in his place.

“It feels like the right time for us to be playing together again”, says Kurtz. “theNEWDEAL needed some time to find some new musical inspiration and get some perspective on what is important about what, and how, we play together”.

The New Deal’s original lineup consisted of Kurtz, Shearer and keyboardist Jamie Shields. You can check out our 2011 interview with Shields, in which he discusses the band’s then imminent (though apparently not permanent) break up, here.
