Last night, Jane Goodall celebrated her 80th birthday with a ceremony along with a brief set from friend and collaborator Dave Matthews. The guitarist took the stage following a brief introduction from Goodall. Matthews moved through a variety of songs, leading off with the ukelele-driven “Sweet” from DMB’s latest Away From the World. Other songs in the set included a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me to Tomorrow,” which Dave recorded for the John Denver covers album, along with noted-DMB cuts “Don’t Drink the Water” and “Satellite.”

Goodall is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, an international wildlife and environment conservation organization located in Arlington, VA. Matthews and Goodall have a long history together, with Dave also performing at her Leadership Awards Benefit where Goodall presented the guitarist with an award for his work with her and with other environmental agencies.
