Jerry Joseph Will Perform at Your House to Raise Money for Afghan Music Education

Jerry Joseph is teaming up with Portland musician Michael Lewis to teach at the non-profit Rock School Kabul in Afghanistan. The singer-songwriter and his partner have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for the trip, which will take place later this spring.

The funds will be used to pay for travel expenses, as well as shipping and logistics expenses to bring in music gear and purchase needed equipment for the school. The pair will also donate any of the extra money they raise directly to Rock School Kabul.

The pair are offering a variety of perks to those that donate, including a very special in-home concert from Joseph. $5,000 will get you a Jerry Joseph performance at your house, and you’ll even be able to write the set. Contributors that aren’t willing to shell out that much can also pick up signed merch, gifts from Afghanistan, tickets and lodging for the Jackmormons 10th anniversary show and more.

Rock School Kabul is a youth music school in Kabul, Afghanistan that is run by the Sound Studies Project. The institution provides co-ed music instruction to residents of the city from various backgrounds.

Does this reak of shameless self promotion? I mean, raising money to go to what amounts to building a school of rock in Kabul? I am sure this all started well intentioned, but where along the time line that started with, “I want to do something good for humanity” and ended with “You know who would probably love to learn the Stairway to Heaven solo, the people of Kabul” did something go terribly wrong?

In the worlds of being a whiny opportunistic deadbeat, one may say Jerry has little company. A man afforded such a small platform and paying customer base should respect his art a little more and keep his politics to himself. He is merely doing this to sell a few ten packs more at his next post Panic show in a city near you. In all this we are lost talking about the Jackmoron when this May be a great cause. When he becomes Bono or even Brian Setzer maybe he can start having his loud mouth taken remotely seriously. Until then JB and the boys need a new Chainsaw City or Climb to Safety Ambassador. Maybe head back to the Ned to foster that creative spirit again.

Honest Question April 8, 2014, 19:46:16

Is this even real or is this a basic ponzy scheme?

Wow from yahoo to jambands.com the comment section is truly the bottom of the barrel. Lots of hate out there for a guy who is trying to raise some money to help out a society that’s in desperate need of it, regardless of the form. Oh wait you have to reach Bono status to do that? Thanks for letting us know. Otherwise it’s “shameless self promotion from a deadbeat” huh? Got it. Thanks for that. Good thing you guys are out there telling people you dont know how to “respect their art”! Keep up the good work anynomously ripping charity projects online.

Whiny opportunistic deadbeats troll on comment boards. People who are trying to make a difference do something. Quit taking out your self loathing out on other people. Let us know next time your doing something to improve the world around you. What is political about teaching music to people whose lives have been destroyed by war? How can you possibly make this about your personal distaste for someones art or politics when this is so clearly about helping other people. Your both being disgusting.
