Phil Lesh returned to the Capitol Theatre last night with a new assortment of friends—Marco Benevento, Jackie Greene, John Kadlecik, Joe Russo and special guest Bill Evans. The core band got things going with a take on The Beatles’ “Here Comes The Sun” before Evans joined the fray for the rest of the set, which included rocking “Jack Straw” as well as a crowd-pleasing “Bertha” to close it out.

The group kicked off the second set, sans Evans, with a “Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion).” The saxophonist then came out for a “Help on the Way” > “Slipknot” > “Franklin’s Tower” that included a “Standing on the Moon” wedged in the middle. The music didn’t stop for the second the set as well, as “Playing in the Band” segued into an “Estimated Prophet” that transitioned into “Bird Song” before becoming “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad.” The night finally came to a close with “Cumberland Blues.”
