The National closed out their April tour with a show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. To kick off the encore, the band brought out Bob Weir for a cover of “I Know You Rider.” This is another in a long line of collaborations for The National (who employ several Grateful Dead fans) and Weir. In 2012, The National took to the stage at Weir’s TRI Studios for a set that included several collaborations as well as a roundtable discussion with both parties. Most recently, Weir joined the band during their 2013 slot at Outside Lands Music Festival.

The National have long discussed putting together a Grateful Dead tribute album along with the likes of Kurt Vile, Vampire Weekend, The War on Drugs, Bon Iver and more. However, nothing is officially on the books.

Next up for the band is a slot at the Shaky Knees Festival on May 9 in Atlanta, GA. They will spend most of the summer in Europe but will return in June for a three-night run in Brooklyn as a part of Celebrate Brooklyn!
