Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers to Headline Lockn’ Festival

The Lockn’ Festival has announced that Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will headline one night at this year’s event. The band—who will release their new album Hypnotic Eye later this summer—join a lineup that already includes The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh & Friends, Bob Weir & RatDog, Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, Wilco and more. Many of the above artists are slated to perform on multiple nights, and Widespread Panic will be joined by Steve Winwood during one of their sets.

Lockn’ has expanded 2014 its lineup over the past few weeks with additions such as Tedeschi Trucks Band, Umphrey’s McGee, Drive-By Truckers, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Gary Clark Jr., Willie Nelson, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Hot Tuna Acoustic, The Wood Brothers, Cabinet and Bustle in Your Hedgerow featuring Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz and Scott Metzger.

Additionally, Lockn’ also recently confirmed that Warren Haynes, John Scofield, John Medeski and Joe Russo will join Phil Lesh for his Friends shows at this year’s festival.

Lockn’ Festival will return to Arrington, VA this September 4-7. General Admission tickets as well as VIP options are available via the festival’s website.

Seriously? This is the headliner we’ve been waiting for? Seriously?

jz April 29, 2014, 12:42:41

Well, that’s definitely not Neil Young.

Zzzzzzzzzz. And, yes, I have seen Tom Petty live before.

Absolutely love it. TP is a great addition to an already incredible lineup. Will be an epic weekend. Jaded cunts can stay the fuck away.

So long Lockn’. It was a nice concept. I guess the promoters didn’t make enough money last year. We should be getting word of the first EDM act any day.

Yes sean, this Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers addition just screams EDM. Get real, this fest is gonna kick ass. Bummer they couldn’t get Neil but TP and his band put on a surprisingly rockin show.

Anybody fortunate enough to make it to lockn should not be complaining. The lineup is already as stacked as could be. Although Petty seems random, he’s a classic. If you can’t have a good time while listening to some petty tunes, you’re probably a huge bummer as a person.

Sean April 29, 2014, 13:27:15

I agree TP is a legend. I’ve enjoyed his music for a long time. This fest was advertised last year as being different aka non commercial.

Petty is great live. Everyone knows his tunes. It’s a fun rock and roll show. Ease up haters! It’s OK to like groups other than JAMBANDS! Have fun with Petty – we won’t tell all your hippie friends that you did….shhhhhh

string cheese and skrillx

TOMPETTYBLOWS April 29, 2014, 13:47:16

Hardly a fukn headliner!!

Blah April 29, 2014, 14:14:51

Tom Petty isn’t any more commercial than Neil Young. He might not be as good but that doesn’t mean that this fest is going to be Bonnaroo next year (though who knows about a decade from now). Petty, Wilco, Gary Clark and Willie Nelson aren’t jambands but they’re wayyyy closer to that orbit than fucking Kanye West and whatever else Roo is working with these days.

steve b April 29, 2014, 14:23:57

Petty is someone that ALL jamband fans most definitely ate up while they were still only listening to Floyd, Allmans and the Skeletons in closet Dead.. to say otherwise is utter BS unless you had the coolest older siblings or cousins to show you the way. His shows may be rather composed, but the songs are fun and the shows are as well. Maybe there wont be 10 min jams but you telling me his deeper tracks aren’t good or jammy? Then go listen some more and by the time Lock’n comes along you will be stoked.

Joshua Katt April 29, 2014, 14:51:24

Not saying TP isn’t a good choice but as a headliner? One night of his greatest hits? Don’t think so this year, to drive 1000 miles round-trip, buy 2 x $1000 VIP tickets and a hotel, definitely not coming again…

One of the greatest singer songwriters to ever rock out. I have seen him multiple times and he ALWAYS delivered. He can play a show of 30 kickass tunes and you can think of 30 more great ones he left out. Vintage guitars, beautiful harmonies and tunes that rock!

steve b April 29, 2014, 16:22:04

Josh- In case it didn’t cross your mind.. how about sleeping in a tent for $400. Hotel and music festival are about as opposite as you can get man.
