Word spread last night on Twitter that Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio was on his way to sit in with Soule Monde at NYC’s Iridium Jazz Club. Soule Monde, of course, is the jazz duo of TAB members Russ Lawton (drums) and Ray Paczkowski (keys).

Anastasio ended up joining the duo for both shows, beginning at 8:30 and 10:30 respectively and performed a set of deep improvisational music focusing on the duo’s originals. For the encore, following multiple standing ovations, the band performed the TAB original “Cayman Review” with Anastasio on vocals.

Trey Anastasio initially founded his solo band as a trio, with Lawton and bassist Tony Markellis in 1998. The trio performed together as Eight Foot Flurorescent Tubes (and The Trio) before Paczkowski joined in 2001.
