Help Fund Rusted Root’s New Album

Rusted Root is celebrating their 25th anniversary with a brand new album. The band is offering special packages to those who wish to help fund the project via an Indiegogo page created by the group with an accompanying video.

Special packages include everything from a private full band concert ($20,000) and acoustic show ($10,000) to a thank you in the liner notes ($50) and a lyric sheet from one of the new tunes on the album ($125).

Are u kiddin! Any band that “has made it” (they were really popular in the 90’s and signed to a major label) should in no way shape or form ask for a kickstarter or funds from fans. Too bad you pissed all your money away! Keep touring for another 10 years and put out your shitty record that no one’s going to buy! (That goes for any band) Take out a loan from a bank if you think your next record is going to be a “smash hit” ! That is all!

Not a big fan, but calm down dude. Oridinary people, govts, major corporations, foundations, etc. contribute millions to “ the arts” every year. Why is this such a big deal?

they shouldn’t have spent all their 90’s earnings on Peace Frog tee shirts. Plus aren’t they getting royalties right now from the rental car commercials?

Seriously there are so many struggling bands covered here that never played sheds for something like Horde and had a radio hit that has been on plenty of commercials. This isn’t the right way to do business in my view. Reminds me of how tdb work. Have camp bisco then ask for cash for projects via kickstarter. The drummer in UM did the same although he’s doing fine. Put the risk on your fans?? What kind of self respecting artist does that?

YES GAB U GOT IT!! May 21, 2014, 16:46:32

and “floodwood” did the same thing as well! And i’m a huge moe.fan ! They have the money it just sucks they have to ask the fans !!! Have faith in your own music!

There actually is nothing wrong with doing a crowd funding campaign. It is another way artists can connect with the fans and see what’s out there. A lot of famous artists, including Neil Young and Renaissance, have had successful crowd funding campaigns. I contributed to Renaissance’s campaign because I am a diehard fan of theirs. I know seeing Rusted Root in concert that they have a lot of fans who would support them. Best of luck!

I would speculate that the deal Rusted Root struck with Polygram in the 90’s was extremely one sided and they (Polygram) are the ones who made the lions share of the cash off of that one. That said, who cares if they are soliciting donations for a new record? If you don’t agree, don’t participate. Hope it works out for them.

I’m thinking of it like cool merch items. Some of the packages sound pretty cool. They’re not actually asking fans just to DONATE... they’re giving some cool packages that real fans may want to buy. Hanging out with your favorite band is a pretty cool merch item and getting packages of stuff from them and offering different experiences seems a lot like selling t-shirts and CDs on the road… in this case, they’re telling us exactly how they’re going to spend the money the fans are buying the items for… Its actually pretty transparent and makes me feel better about buying!

This band sucked in the 90’s. torturous waiting through their set @ every other ones show in 98. Hot tuna blows too

Seems to me the barrage of negative posts posting to each other in such a short time smells of the same poster but different usernames.
