Gov’t Mule took to the stage at Mountain Jam last night for a two-set show that was heavy on guests, Mule classics and surprise covers.

Festival host Warren Haynes pulled from the Tedeschi Trucks Band, who played before Mule on this night, as Derek Trucks came out for a rendition of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus” late in the first set. Trucks and Mule collaborated on the same song at the Wanee Festival in April.

After a second-set opening “Mule,” Eric Krasno, Kofi Burbridge and Susan Tedeschi joined the band for the classic “Tell Me Something Good.” Later on in the set, following a “Soulshine” and a take on Radiohead’s “Creep,” Jackie Greene stepped on stage for a pair of tunes. The Black Crowes guitarist joined in on a cover of “Sugaree” as well as The Crowes’ “Sometimes Salvation.” The set closed with more TTB members, trombonist Saunders Sermons II and trumpeter Maurice Brown, who joined in on the closing “Tributary Jam” out of “Broke Down on the Brazos.”

If there weren’t enough surprises in the sets, Mule returned for a three-song encore comprised of tunes from The Doors, surely reprising their time with guitarist Robby Krieger during previous holiday runs. Krieger, however, was not present for this brief Doors tribute.

Jonathan Wilson also made his Mountain Jam debut and invited out Haynes for a take on “Valley of the Silver Moon.“Additional performances at Mountain Jam yesterday also included Pretty Lights, Jeff Tweedy (who debuted his new duo Tweedy with son Spencer), Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds and more. Dino Perrucci shared some images from the show below.
