The Barr Brothers have announced that their new album Sleeping Operator is set for release on October 7 via Secret City Records. The 13-track LP was recorded and mixed by Ryan Freeland (Bonnie Raitt, Aimee Mann, Ray Lamontagne), and features guest appearances by Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, Patrick Watson’s band, The Luyas, Bassekou Kouyate’s band and Little Scream. The album also incorporates a number of unconventional instruments, including a West African string instrument called a ngoni, a fan-made instrument called a cardboardium, a classical harp, hammered dulcimer and more.

In addition to the album, the band has also announced a few new tour dates in Canada, the Midwest and Cambridge, MA for November. The band will also be playing an assortment of previously scheduled shows in the United States and Europe over the course of the summer.
