Last month we reported on the drum battle between comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith. The pair, who have an uncanny resemblance to one another, got behind their kits for a Tonight Show drum off after raising a few hundred thousand dollars for charity. Ferrell was then declared the winner when he took up his signature cowbell to help the rest of the Chili Peppers through a rendition of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear The Reaper.”

By all accounts, the event was a huge success and it looks like the pair is ready for round two with another well-known drummer—Metallica’s Lars Ulrich. Speaking to Spin, Smith revealed that the challenge has been extended to Ulrich, with Ferrell adding, “Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now, too.”

There’s no word yet on when this potential drum battle might take place, whether or not it will be tied to a charity fundraiser or if it will happen at all. However, as Smith noted later in the Spin interview, “the gauntlet is down.”
