Dave Matthews Band’s two-set tour rolled into Cuyahoga Falls, OH’s Blossom Music Center last night. During both the acoustic and electric sets, the band welcomed out longtime collaborator Bela Fleck on banjo for a grand total of three songs. This was Fleck’s first appearance since sitting in with the band since June 6, 2008 in Bridgeview, IL.

Fleck jumped in on the Away From the World track “Snow Outside” during the acoustic set, a song he has never played on before. In the electric portion of the evening, Fleck’s banjo was called on for “Spaceman,” a song that featured Danny Barnes on the studio version for 2009’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, and “Grace is Gone.”

The ties between Fleck and DMB run deeper than most as not only did the banjoist record with the band on their 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets but DMB sax player Jeff Coffin was a member of the Flecktones before leaving to join the band full time following the death of LeRoi Moore.

This tour has seen DMB pay tribute to their past on several occasions as they also welcomed back the Lovely Ladies for a series of shows. The current two-set format also harkens back to 1991-93 before they switched to the one-set show.
