Joe Russo Joins Japanese Grateful Dead Tribute Act in Tokyo

Joe Russo sat in with Japanese Grateful Dead tribute act Warlocks of Tokyo during Dead Night at the Lown Bar in Setagaya-Ku, Tokyo on Sunday night. The Furthur drummer, who was in Japan performing with the Shpongle Live Band on Friday and Saturday, joined the group for “Cassidy” a rendition of “Bertha” that featured Japanese lyrics and “Johnny B. Goode.”

Joe Russo may be the best GD cover band drummer ever but it aint close to the real thing, he needs to get back with Marco to reclaim his integrity and stop feeding off the carcass of Jerry Garcia.

PM-what a silly comment. If Phil Lesh asks you to play with him, find me one musician that wouldn’t. Your comment is ignorant

And yea…what Dave said.

and whats so special about Phil Lesh?

3)What’s so special about Phil Lesh? 1) He’s Phil Lesh 2) He plays the bass quite well and for a musician his age to be performing as regularly as he does is a wonderful blessing. 3) He was a founding member of String Cheese and the Incidents, as well as the leader and best musician in that Frank Zappa/Talking Heads cover band called Phish. They got pretty big back in the 90s even though their guitarist was stuck on those 80s. 4) He pays his side-men so you know that if you play for him you’ll get PAID!

You know you’ve arrived when you have a Tokyo tribute band! Congratulations to Grateful Dead. Bertha is priceless here.

What’s so special about Phil Lesh? PM you are a fool. How old are you anyway? You sound like you are about eighteen. Green and lacking perspective. Have you listened to him closely for any length of time? If you did, you would understand that in an industry dominated by derivatives, Mr. Lesh is truly an original. So he’s not a great songwriter. That’s not what he brings to the table. I’ve been listening to the Grateful Dead for over forty years now. I still get excited when I hear Phil and cohorts throw down on one of my old faves. It’s similar to the Dead but new and different. Your man Warren understands this. That’s why he plays with Phil at every opportunity. He gets it. To bad for you that you do not.
